Google Music Remote: Control Google Music With Your Phone

Google Music remote

Remote of the Week

Hello and welcome to the brand new feature Remote of the Week! This week we’re featuring the Google Music remote. Google does things differently. You could even say that they “think differently.” So when it comes to launching a music service, there are certain attributes we can come to expect:

  1. It will be big (18 million tracks and counting, plus 20,000 self-uploaded tracks)
  2. There will be experiments
  3. There will be cool visualizations
  4. There will be doodles
  5. It will be in beta for years until it’s available in other countries… That said: Canada!

Now, you can control Google Music with your phone! Whether you use the service to cloudify your already-owned tracks or to surf the entire catalogue, you might want to move away from your computer on occasion. With Apptui, just grab your phone or tablet and keep control. Go do something: wash the dishes, have some friends over or throw a party. Alternatively, don’t do anything and control your computer from bed. We won’t judge. Our Google Music remote lets you play/pause, switch tracks, search libraries and control in-app volume.

Although this remote has been requested by a few users, Nik was the first. Thanks Nik!

If you’re not familiar with Apptui, it’s our new app that lets you control your whole computer with your Android/iOS phone or tablet. We give you mouse control, full keyboard input and have special customized remotes for your favorite sites and apps. If I’m lying about that last claim, send us an email at support@apptui.com and let us know what we’re missing! It worked for the Google Music remote and it can work for you!

Addendum: Those wondering why this post is not part of the much-loved “TUI Thursday” blog post series should note that “TUI Thursday” has been put on temporary hiatus in respect for the trademarks and branding of TUI Deutschland GmbH. Thanks for your understanding.

Party Playlist: How and Where to Find the Best Party Music

Party Playlist

So you’re having a party…

You probably need some music. Unless you know exactly what you want to play and have a party playlist ready to go, you’ll probably need a little help. Luckily, there is a near-infinite number of streaming music services that are just begging to help.

Types

Playlists: A set list of tracks that are skippable

Radio: Like a radio station, constant stream of tracks that are either automatically-generated or selected by a DJ

Mixtapes/mixes: A selection of songs usually packaged together. Individual tracks are not skippable

Catalog: On demand library of tracks

I’ve arranged them alphabetically for impartiality (we love them all!).

    • Legitimate, professional DJ mixes
  • Cons:
    • Maybe a little too professional, if you know what I mean

V- v-… v- video party?

You bet, now you can have your own music video dance party. Here are some of your options (including YouTube which was already mentioned):

Take control of your party playlist with Apptui

Once you’ve decided on a DJ-assistant, you might find that having a computer out during a party might not be the best setup. That’s why we made Apptui, and app that lets you control your whole computer with your phone. We’ve also made remotes for almost all the sites mentioned above. Take a look at our Spotify, Grooveshark and iHeartRadio remotes for example. We are also more than willing to make more, so if you have a site you love to use but would like to control from around the house or on the couch, let us know at support@apptui.com.

Spotify Remote – Desktop and Web Versions

Spotify remote

One Spotify remote? Eh, not bad. TWO Spotify remotes? That’s some goodness. That’s TUI Thursday.

Whether you stream using the Spotify website or the desktop application, we’ve got you covered. Apparently they add around 20,000 new songs per day, so what are you waiting for? Pause/play, skip tracks and (on the web version) search right from the remote. Don’t forget that with Apptui you get full mouse control and keyboard access, so you can really do whatever you want. We also have remotes for a bunch of other sites and applications.

Say, for example, you were to throw a party. Lets say, just for the sake of argument, that this party was full of high profile musical types whose opinions you really care about because they have impeccable taste. Unfortunately, half the guests are thieves (but still great people, really) and the other half tend to make a big mess. Luckily, Apptui provides a way for them to have a say in the night’s playlist without endangering your computer. Connect it to the big screen, stash it away, and let everyone connect via Apptui to control Spotify. Unless they spill a drink on or somehow manage to steal their own phone, your crowdsourced jukebox was a success. Now get some new friends.

Thanks to Apptui user Seb for suggesting a Spotify remote. As always, if you have any suggestions for remotes that you’d like to see, let us know at support@apptui.com.

TUI Thursday: Friday Edition – Grooveshark remote and iHeartRadio remote

TUI Thursday: Grooveshark & iHeartRadioHello everyone! A very special TUI Thursday this week. I’m proud to announce two brand new, user-requested remotes: Grooveshark and iHeartRadio.

Both of these sites are quite popular, but if you’re unfamiliar, Grooveshark is a music streaming service with playlists and live broadcasts. iHeartRadio lets you listen to radio stations all over the US as well as on-demand playlists. They also just had a pretty crazy awards show. Also, I think that Apptui is the only iHeartRadio remote out there, so if you try it out quickly you can be one of the first.

Some may say that the reason that this post contains twice the average weekly remote content is because someone forgot to make a post last week, but studies show that human beings are fallible creatures that are statistically doomed to err at some point in their lives regardless of circumstance, and neurological profiles of the human brain demonstrate higher-than-normal cerebral activity during processes commonly referred to as “empathy”, “forgiveness” and “compassion” that is false.

Anyways, thanks to Apptui users Alex and Michael for the suggestions. As usual, if you have more suggestions let me know at support@apptui.com. We still have more that we’re working through so look to see some crowdsourced TUI action sometime in the near future.

The Best Wireless Mouse: Your Phone?

When they celebrate the opening of a new building, what do they do? They take a big ribbon and cut it. To defuse a bomb and save dozens of lives? Grab the right colour wire and give it a snip. When a child is bor— you get the picture. It is the natural tendency of human beings to cut wires, that’s just a basic fact of nature. This has spurred countless innovations in wireless technology and is directly responsible for the popularity of mobile phones. But you already knew that; that’s why you’re here. You want to know what is the best wireless mouse.

Indeed, there are a bunch of good choices for conventional wireless mice with two buttons and scroll wheel. This one is supposed to be good. These guys, not so much. Actually, it looks like there are a lot more bad choices.

Not the Best Wireless Mouse

Minimum order: 500

Really, though, these are all just mice without a wire. With Apptui, we think that we can do more than just get rid of something; we can make the mouse better. If you have a smartphone or tablet, you are already carrying a precision control instrument on your person, so why not turn that into a remote? That’s what Apptui does!

Here’s why we think Apptui is the best wireless mouse:
  1. You own it. Don’t buy any more stuff! Apptui helps you reuse a fancy piece of electronics in a new way.
  2. Touchscreen control. Stop trying to use a mouse on your thigh, the couch armrest or a book that’s not quite big enough. Using your mobile device’s touchscreen means you can stop worrying about having properly-textured flat surfaces around you at all times.
  3. Mouse AND keyboard. Ah, the Achilles’ heel of HTPC setups. Managing a wireless mouse is one thing, but having a full keyboard on your lap as well? That gets to be a bit much in our experience. Apptui gives you precise mouse control and keyboard input, all in one hand.
  4. Custom remotes. This is why we really think Apptui can change how you use your computer. Apptui is the only wireless mouse/computer control app that has automatically switching custom remotes. For example, go to iTunes and you get an iTunes remote, go to YouTube in Chrome and get a YouTube remote with pause/play, volume and more. Same with Netflix, Vimeo, 8tracks… the list goes on.
