Vimeo remote: control the cool kids’ cool vids

Vimeo remote

Let’s just get it out in the open: Vimeo is pretty cool. Our Vimeo remote might not be quite as cool, but we love it anyways. It lets us show off the cool videos we found and control Vimeo without having to crowd around a laptop.

To get this remote for yourself, just install the Apptui desktop application and grab the mobile app from the App Store or Google Play. It’s free, but there’s more: not only are you able to control Vimeo, you get remotes for over 40 other sites and apps. But there’s even more: Apptui is the only remote out there that switches controls on the fly.  So after you’re done watching something on Vimeo, you can jump over to YouTube to watch something a little less sophisticated perhaps, or even visit 8tracks and put on a playlist.

Switching remotes

See, it switches automatically!

Now if you have the remote but need something to watch, here are some quick recommendations:

  1. Chris Bryan Films Phantom Reel – super slowmo wave clips… and some crazy people riding them on pieces of wood.
  2. Bokehxplosions – beautiful fireworks through a different lens.
  3. EMERGENCE – I Can’t Believe It’s Not CG!

We hope you like the remote. If you have any comments/questions, or if you have other sites that you’d like a remote for, drop us a line at or message us on Twitter.

Apptui bugfix released

Bug fix

We’ve just released a hotfix for Apptui that addresses the following issues:

  • Apptui will now recover from unexpected errors, most notably crashing on startup on Windows.
  • Users with spotty Wi-Fi should be a bit more stable.
  • Other stability improvements.

Known issues:

  • If you find that your remote has died and you’ve lost control, try disconnecting* and reconnecting to your computer.
  • If you see a blue error screen, don’t be alarmed. This just means that Apptui has spotted an error and is restarting automatically. After this happens, you will need to disconnect and reconnect as mentioned above.

Thanks again to everyone who sent us feedback and helped make Apptui better! Get in touch by sending us an email at or mentioning us on Twitter.

Android Remote Control

There are many Android remote control apps. You can get general-purpose wireless mice and keyboards, and there’s a good selection of application-specific remotes for VLC, Plex, XBMC, etc. And then there’s us, Apptui.

Apptui is a little different.

Apptui gives you basic mouse and keyboard functionality, but with a twist. We’ve built custom remotes for over 40 applications and websites that you can use for free (some apps charge extra for remotes). Here’s the real kicker: managing that many remotes would be a huge pain. Remember when you had a remote for the TV, one for the cable box, one for the DVD player and so on and so forth? Losing them, juggling them when you’re trying to watch a movie, losing the battery cover and then having the batteries always fall out?

Switching remotes on your phone is not something that we think people should have to do, so we made it automatic. With Apptui, use your computer as you always have, switching apps and sites at will, and we’ll serve you the proper remote. It’s that easy.

Features you want in an Android remote control

  1. Free
  2. Ad-free
  3. Mouse control
  4. Keyboard

Features that we think you’ll like in an Android remote control

  1. Remotes for apps
  2. Remotes for websites
  3. Remotes that switch automatically

The only way for us to prove this is for you to try us out! So here we go: please, try out Apptui. We think you’ll like it. You can download it for free here.Android remote control

  • Backend improvements: Brand new communication layer for a smoother and more accurate mouse on all platforms. We’ve tried to optimize our system so that your device talks to your computer with as little lag as possible.
  • New design: We think it looks cool.
  • A large can of Raid®: We’ve killed some bugs.
